6. Protect your handbag from day one
Whenever buying something new the owner usually wants to keep their item in perfect condition from the word go, and with handbags the best thing to do would be to add protection. We recommend our Leather Protection Cream which is used to condition, protect and nourish both old and new leather handbags.
However, instead of protecting and leaving the item, it is recommended to clean and protect every 3-4 months for all year round protection. Depending on usage you may want to clean and protect more or less often, but from experience it is always better to be safe than sorry!
5. Try not to hold the handles too much
This is a bit of an odd one admittedly, as handbag handles are meant to be held and carried! But from experience the natural oils present within skin nearly always seep into and discolour the leather over time which can be unsightly and annoying.
To combat this, protect your leather, but also try holding your bag over your arm, or wear gloves where possible. This will help slow down the process of darkening handles in particular and give your bag a longer life, whilst continuing to look the best it possibly can.
4. Be mindful of water damage
Water in whatever form will always have a negative impact on your bag on the inside and outside. Try to minimize contact with rain and avoid putting any drinks inside your bag (or at least ensure the lids are on properly). You would not believe the amount of horror stories we have seen from leaks inside bags so be vigilant!
Make-up will always have a home inside your handbag. We understand this. However, do not put make-up directly inside your bag as it can cause bad staining, and in some cases even spread through to the outside of your bag. Use a make-up bag, please.
P.S: Also try to limit the amount of pens you put in your bag, if they leak this can be absolutely disastrous as the ink will soak through and stain the leather permanently.
2. Try using Handbag Clinic's handbag hooks?
Going out with your handbag can be awkward. Restaurants, bars and anywhere public can pose unpredictable risks from stray stains and human error (scuffs and dirt).
Using Handbag Clinic's handbag hook will eradicate these risks, and keep your handbag safe from floors, wet tables and anything sticky that you are unaware of, as well as being placed up a height so it cannot be kicked around and stepped on by accident.

1. Keep the shape of your bag
When your bag is not in use you should make sure the leather is supported and the shape is maintained. Keep it stuffed with tissue paper, in a dustbag, in a box. Misshapen bags are not easily repaired and can be almost impossible to return to their original shape once the damage is done.
